FULL FORM HEX

These broaches are used for either rotary or push broaching process, and offer the quickest method for creating a hex form.

2 POINT HEX BROACH

This broach shape requires less pressure than the 3 point.  It requires going to full depth 3 times after indexing.  There can be some deflection in the 2nd & third passes, especially in deep broaching processes.

3 POINT HEX BROACH

To relieve the amount of force needed to broach a hex form, 3 corners of the hex are ground down.  After going to full depth and coming out of the part, index 60 degrees, go back to full depth to create a full form hex.  This does not relieve as much pressure as a 2 point hex broach, but does stay in the center of the hole with no deflection.

OTHER HEX VARIATIONS

We can also create rectangle shapes to create full hex forms, as well as single point forms. Each of these forms has its advantages.  We can recommend which form and process will best fit your required specs and operation.  We can be onsite if needed.

MATERIAL TYPES

RAYCO #8 :  Our standard material.   It will cover a wide range of jobs and is superior to other commercially available hardened materials used for broach operations.  It is readily available in a wide range of sizes.

RAYCO #2:  This is a premium general purpose material exhibiting a very good combination of hardness, and wear resistance for broaching applications.

RAYCO #7 :  This is a special purpose material exhibiting very high hardness, combined with exceptional abrasion resistance, and toughness.  It is intended for use on materials with tensile strengths exceeding 190 KSI and up to 50 Hrc.  Example: Cobalt-Chrome, Custom 455, Biodur 108 & 22-13-5, 17-4 H900, Strain Hardened 316, Titanium, Inconel 718 Nace, Monel, Hardened A286/304, etc. It has unmatched tool life compared to conventionally heat treated HSS broaches, coated or not, especially in materials above 40 Hrc where tool life can be 50-100 times greater. This material is also recommended for sockets where no drill witness is allowed.
